Power in the Storm

Psalm 46:1-3
"God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble,
Therefore we will not fear though the
earth give way,
though the mountains be moved into
the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its
swelling."

Have you ever been there? Standing on the top of the mountain and feeling the earth tremble, ready to just "give way"? You feel the waters roaring around you and smell the foam it gives off. Yes, it's HERE that the Lord says, "I am your refuge and strength. DO NOT FEAR."

We have nothing to fear when the storm is silent. The stillness of the waves hold no tremors. God is still here in this serene moment, yet it seems I don't NEED Him as much. I'm not crying out for deliverance, tears falling to the ground in desperate prayers to merely HEAR His calming voice. For if He would speak just one word, my heart would be still.

As uncomfortable as these times in life are, I think many would agree, there's a tenderness in knowing our Savior more here. So then why do we try and try to pray these moments away? We want to dwell in peace, safety and happiness. We think if God would simply grant this wish, we will serve Him forever.

It doesn't work like that. Forever starts today. How do I serve and Love Him today, despite what circumstances I face. The grapes aren't made sweet without pressure. The fish who have no predators chasing them actually taste different than those who run for their very lives. Just because we believe on the name of Jesus Christ and are children of God Most High doesn't mean He removes all bumps and potholes from our path. Anyone can drive there. God wants to teach us to drive the dark, stormy, windy, bumpy back roads by tuning into His radio station. He will navigate us and never lose our GPS signal.

Look at what God delegated to Moses. He chose Moses to stand in Pharaoh's court and proclaim plagues if this man didn't let His people go. And at the same time, God hardened Pharaoh's heart so it would take longer! Why?! Because of the verse right here in Exodus 9:16:

"For this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth."

God longs to show you His POWER. He longs for His name to be proclaimed from the mountain top. Sometimes, when we're on that mountain top, it begins to shake, tremble even, and appear as though the foaming waters will overtake it. It's in these times we can personally know and be confident of this... "The Lord is my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Before now, we borrowed this truth from others, and now, we OWN it. We have personally experienced the POWER of God and will never forget it. Praise the Lord in the storm my friends!

Putting it In Our Own Words,

~Julie
